The remarkable Umah di Beji is a riverside estate, accessed by a long private driveway off a small village road in Canggu. This lavish property reflects design elements associated with the royal palaces of Java. The five thatched living pavilions form three sides of a square, the fourth being the river and all encompass an elegant landscaped garden, replete with stone staircases and cascading lily ponds.

The gardens slope down to a raised slate lined swimming pool, backed by towering stands of bamboo with the far banks of the river rising to steep tiered rice fields. Overlooking the property is the open living pavilion with an enormous dining table, spacious seating areas and adjoining kitchen. Two poolside bales offer further space for entertaining and both command great views of the luxuriant gardens.

The master bedroom is housed by the river, at the far end of the estate and has one of Bali's most extravagant en suite bathrooms. As well as its own private terrace and walled garden, this stately bathroom features a bath in the middle of a lily pond only accessible by stepping-stones. Only for the truly discerning, Umah di Beji is a palatial retreat with impeccable style.
